Like any area of your home, the floor also requires attention to preserve its appearance and prolong its life. Routine cleaning with products specific to the floor material can be of great help. Depending on the type and design of the floor, regular maintenance polishing and sealing can also be of great benefit.
Here we are going to give you several essential tips for the conservation and cleaning of your home floor to help you make the most of the floors you have.
General Tips For Caring For Home Floors
• Using excessive amounts of products is counterproductive. As harsh chemicals can ruin the finish of the floor. This can ultimately damage the finish of the floor. Instead, you can increase the frequency of cleaning to ensure better results and floor longevity.
• Sweep regularly and mop with a damp mop. Excessive use of water when mopping can also damage the floor. Note the floor material if it is porous or retains water, be sure to use as little water as possible when cleaning.
• The basic cleaning products you need, such as a broom, dustpan, mop or cleaning cloths and vacuum cleaners, are generally the fundamental tools you need to care for your floor. When it comes to cleaning products, choose those specially formulated for the type of floor you have.
• Direct, strong exposure to sunlight can damage the finish of your floors. Close blinds or curtains when the floor is exposed to direct sunlight to avoid discoloration of the floor.
• Take precautions when moving heavy objects to avoid serious and permanent damage to floors. Use carts to move heavy furniture or appliances. Do not slide or roll them on the floor. Most floors are not resistant to constant wear and friction.
• Use floor protectors to support furniture and prevent dents and stains on floors. The heavier the furniture, the wider the protector should be. Make sure protectors are unpigmented to avoid fading. Protectors must be at least 1” in diameter and lie flat against the floor.
• Blotting is the best practice to clean up any spills. To clean oiled floors, wine spills or paint splatters, blot with paper towels and wipe immediately to avoid stains. Be sure to start at the edges and then work your way inward to avoid spreading the spill. Dry the area after cleaning to prevent it from becoming slippery.
• To prevent the spread of dirt and debris, it is important to prevent additional wear and tear on the tiles, place rugs and rugs in areas that experience a lot of movement.
